The cheerful notes from the Danish Naval Band mixed with the sound of happy voices when “Under Sail For 1000 Years” welcomed its patroness. On the pier in Odense crowds of people had gathered to catch a glimpse of the Princess before she entered the red stage and opened the event.

Before the Princess opened the festival, speeches were given by Bendt Bendtsen, Minister for Economic and Business Affairs, Rear Admiral Nils Wang, Admiral Danish Fleet, Jan Boye, Mayor of Odense and Steffen Møller, Project Leader for “Under Sail For 1000 Years”.

In his speech Admiral Danish Fleet, Rear Admiral Nils Wang said that he was very happy with the Danish Navy’s participation in “Under Sail For 1000 Years”, since it combines usefullness with pleasure.
