One of the many offers at the festival “Under Sail for 1000 years” is the mobile education center of the Danish Defence “Check Point One” which is built into a large, white truck. Here the visitors can get answers to their questions about Danish security policy and international operations of the Danish Defence.
Check Point One has existed in its present form for three years and participates every year in 10-20 events similar to “Under Sail For 1000 Years” – i.e. festivals and markets where many people are around.
The main activity of the bus is however aimed towards schools in Denmark where Check Point One provides education. Every year appoximately 7000 pupils from about 130 different schools benefit from a visit by the bus. Pupils and teachers decide themselves the content of their lecture by choosing from a selection of different topics.
Until now Check Point One has been part of “FOV” (Danish Armed Forces Welfare and Information Service) but from tomorrow, September 1, the mobile outreach and education center vil be placed under the newly established Media Center of the Danish Defence. But even though the label will change the contents of the ‘bottle’ will still be the same.
