DANMARK under full sails in Odense

The training ship DANMARK has joined the many ships in Odense harbour.

After two months of sailing Europe the three mast full-rigged ship has arrived in Odense, where the maritime festival “Under Sails for 1000 years” was opened yesterday.

On board the ship young Danes have been trained in seamanship and navigation since 1933.

Facts about DANMARK:

  • Length: 77 metres
  • With: 10 metres
  • Height: 45 metres
  • Draught: 5.2 metres
  • Speed (sails): approximately 12 knots
  • Speed (engine): approximately 9 knots

The training ship has a crew of 17 able seamen and officers, and 80 students.

Saturday there will be “open ship” on board the training ship DANMARK, before the ship set sails for Poland.

September 22 the training ship will arrive in Frederikshavn, thereby finishing DANMARK’s 92 cruise since it was build at Nakskov Shipyard.
