Burning cars and razed buildings characterized the hurricane ravaged region of North Vendia yesterday, as Navy forces and Danish Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) struggled to salvage the many panicked civilians.
In the afternoon the hectic operation was more or less under control and the fleet commanders could inspect the scene.
The Commanding Officer German Navy, Vice-Admiral Hans-Joachim Stricker, visited the area together with the Admiral Danish Fleet, Rear Admiral Nils Wang and Commander Danish Task Group, Commodore Palle Cortes.
The exercise was conducted as a part of DANEX 06 at Jerup Strand and at the Danish Naval Damage Control School in Hvims.

The leader of the DEMA effort on the scene, Per Sandholdt, went through the operation from a DEMA point of view, and the officers went for a tour in the ruined area. For example they witnessed how Navy fire-fighter teams defied the flames, and went into burning ships placed at the Naval Damage Control School. On their way through the area they also saw groups of role-players being helped by DEMA or Navy personnel.
Commodore Palle Cortes who as Commander Danish Task Group is in charge of DANEX 06 stated his satisfaction with the execution of the exercise.
He also underlined the importance of being able to conduct Disaster Relief Operations, when countries around the world are struck by natural disaster.
