During Exercise DANEX 07 it is not sufficient to say or write “Commanding Officer Starklint”.

The reason is that there are two Commanding Officers with that name and they are brothers.

Ole Starklint is 49 years old, Master Chief Petty Officer, and Commanding Officer on the oldest and smallest ship in the Danish Navy, the naval cutter Y343 LUNDEN. It is a Target Service Craft that places and pulls targets used for gunnery exercises against moving targets.

His five years older brother, Commander s.g. Per Starklint, is Commanding Officer on the Navy’s newest and largest ship, HDMS ABSALON.

During DANEX the ship is completing final technical trials so that it is ready to go to Scotland in 14 days with the Danish Task Group on board.

– It will be without me. I’m handing over command to Commander s.g. Frank Trojahn when we get back to Frederikshavn on the evening of Monday the 10th of September.

My next assignment will be on the Faroe Islands, says Per Starklint.
He has been Commanding Officer on ABSALON since May 1st, 2004.
