There was a good co-operation between the Army and the Navy during the evacuation exercise that was conducted yesterday on Bornholm.

During the exercise the Army and the Navy helped just under 300 citizens from EU and NATO countries to get away from the threatened Bonnie Island (Bornholm).

The Army used a recce battalion from the 1. Brigade to secure transportation of the citizens to the evacuation center at Raghammer Odde exercise area. Here the Navy took over the transportation – first to ships at sea and later to a safe port (Rønne).

Major General Peter Kühnel, Commander Danish Division with headquaters in Haderslev, visited the exercise during the evacuation element. Both the Army and Navy units were visited.

First stop during the visit was on the command ship THETIS where Commander Danish Tast Group and exercise leader for DANEX 07, Commodore Palle Cortes, briefed about the exercise.

Afterwards the General and the Admiral together visited the evacuation exercise where they experienced the smooth co-operation between the Army and the Navy.

There was also time to visit ABSALON, the Navy’s newest and largest ship.
