The ships baker, Junior Rating Henning Bak Poulsgaard, had been asked to deliver a cake with the inscription “Congratulations” to the commanding officers’ wardroom not later than 10:00 a.m.
The job was performed very well. The baker was very surprised when he at exactly 10:00 a.m. was hailed on the ships main broadcast: 397 to the commanding officers’ wardroom.
But there was an occasion, a special occasion. Junior Rating Henning Bak Poulsgaard was to be promoted to Able Rating. It should have happened back in May, but the Defence Personnel Service had failed and forgot the important day for the baker. It took several reminders from THETIS to make the promotion fall into place.

The commanding officer cut the
promotion-cake. The baker did not
know anything about the promotion
when he made the cake. |
– Congratulations. The commanding officer, Commader s.g. Henrik Ryberg, promoted Henning Bak Poulsgaard in the commanding officers’ wardroom with attendance by Commander Danish Task Group, Commodore Palle Cortes, and executive officer, Commander Jan Fischer Stripp.
Henning Bak Poulsgaard was drafted as a conscript in 2004 and was on board the Royal Yacht Dannebrog. After that, he signed a contract with the Navy and as a Junior Rating he came on board TRITON and later THETIS. On the 1st of April 2006 he left the Navy to get a job ashore, but on the 1st of November 2006 he returned to THETIS.
