RDDC contributes to international research project on UN Peacekeeping
Peter Viggo Jakobsen from the Royal Danish Defence College participates in a new international project, that aims at enhancing our understanding of why countries contribute to UN peacekeeping operations and at enhancing operational effectiveness.
16-08-2012 - kl. 14:18
Providing for Peacekeeping Project, as the project is called, is directed by Alex Bellamy, Griffith University (Australia), Adam Smith, International Peace Institute (New York), og Paul Williams, The Elliot School of International Affairs (George Washington University, Washington DC).

The project has a dual objective. Theoretically, the aim is to enhance our understanding of why countries contribute to UN peacekeeping operations. Practically, the project will enhance the UN Secretariat with a better overview of which capabilities individual member states are willing to make available to the UN. This will allow the UN Secretariat to ask each country for the capability it is most likely to be willing to provide. By highlighting national barriers to UN contributions the project will facilitate national debates aimed at convincing national decision makers to enhance their UN contributions.

Peter Viggo Jakobsen has been chosen to contribute to provide the analyses of Denmark’s ability and willingness to contribute to UN peacekeeping operations.
