Denmark’s position as one of the worlds leading seafaring nations means, that the Royal Danish Navy has an important task in contributing to create maritime security, which is necessary for a peaceful development – even though it contains the use of force.

HDMS OLFERT FISCHER in the MediterranienDenmark’s security, welfare and growth depends among other things on free access to use the sea for global transportation, and on the right to exploit the natural resources located in or under the sea surrounding Denmark, Greenland and Faros Island.

The task of the Royal Danish Navy is therefore to enforce the sovereignty of Denmark, from the northernmost part in the Arctic region to the southernmost part of Denmark in the Baltic – by use of force if necessary.

Ever since 1990, when the Danish corvette OLFERT FISCHER took part in the first Gulf War, the Royal Danish Navy has continuously participated in international operations.
