Commander Danish Task Group (COM DATG) has been vested authority to command assigned and apportioned forces for real live operations or in the role of tier 2 level exercise framework (integrated task group operations) for preparing forces for international operations. COM DATG operates out of the command platform HDMS THESTIS, which is about to be changed to one of the two command support ships HDMS ABSALON and HDMS ESBERN SNARRE.
DATG further contributes with staff elements to Commander Combined Joint Task Force (COM CJTF) headquarters and Maritime Component Commander (MCC)/Commander Task Force (CTF) headquarters.
Thus the core business of DATG is command and control, operational maritime planning and execution of these in a national as well as in an international context.
DATG leads tier 2 integrated task group training of all national maritime exercise series focussed against units assigned for international operations. DATG is responsible for the planning of the PLAYEX serie (PLAYEX I, PLAYEX II/BALTIC BRIDGE) which comprise basic Task Group training and the DANEX serie which comprise advanced Task Group training.
DATG further participates in NATO exercises and in foreign national maritime exercises typically the MARINER serie (LOYAL MARINER, BRILLIANT MARINER, NOBLE MARINER) in the context of NATO, the NEPTUN WORRIER serie in the context of UK and occasionally in the MULTINATIONAL MARITIME EXERCISE in the context of US.
DATG is responsible for the planning and execution of the Royal Danish Navy´s Operational Rediness Evaluation (OPREDEVAL) of the Danish maritime reaction forces before these are assigned to the NATO Response Force of as contributions to a Coalition of the Willing.
DATG has close relations to ADMIRALDANFLEET, 2 (DA) Squadron staff and belonging units providing forces to international operations.
DATG additionally has close relations to other authorities in the Royal Danish Navy, the Royal Danish Army, the Royal Danish Air Force and the Danish Emergency Management Agency.
DATG has historically been involved with US 2nd FLEET, UK MARFOR and SP MARFOR in exercises.
