DANEX TEAM ALFA in Køge

Events like the celebrations for the Danish Navy’s bicentennial and DANEX 2010 demands big logistics set-ups. Here’s a report from the Danish Logistics TEAM ALFA.

During the Danish Navy’s bicentennial TEAM ALFA set up by the machine pit at Nyholm. During the week we were tasked 46 times with everything from transports, supplies, and known repairs on ships to unforeseen tasks for the command centre at Kvæsthusbroen.

All the Danish ships made sure the week wasn’t boring. We were very happy that we had brought a dinghy; it spared us many hours in Copenhagen traffic.

On Monday 16th we moved to Køge. Køge is centrally placed for the two primary exercise areas. Assistance has been given in the following harbours: Elsinore, Copenhagen, Sjællands Odde, Kalundborg, Korsør, Rødby Havn and Rønne.

TEAM ALFA’s placement in Køge Harbour gave an opportunity to establish a temporary helipad in the back yard, which is always good to have. Already on Tuesday the first LYNX landed from UK SQ 815 and several passengers and baggage has passed this way since. A container is ready if passengers need to spend the night before being passed on.

First Aid got up to speed
First Aid got up to speed
The first week in Køge meant 21 tasks, which were more than expected considering that all Danish ships had been assisted during the first week. TEAM ALFA had contacted Combat Support Wing at Karup, who over two days got our first aid up to speed and hurried us through exercise ranges.

The Navy’s presence in Køge drew attention from local TV and newspapers. Therefore it was decided to hold an Open Day on Saturday.

What the weather gods have against the Navy’s Open Days is not known, but for the two hours of our Open Day, the gods were not on our side. In spite of this we had 100 visitors.

When the rain was falling at it’s heaviest the guests went for the mess tent where the cooks’ coffee and Danish (the bread) was appreciated.

This week we will do shooting exercises with carbines M/96 and be ready for urgent repairs.
