VIBENS last stand
HDMS VIBEN
VIBEN is back in the waters around Bornholm where the last serials ended before the final phase of DANEX 2010 starts. Together with the rest of Task Force 475 VIBEN is ready for the TACEX-phase, where the scenario is beginning to take shape.

In the next few days anything can happen – lines are being drawn. VIBEN’s task is to be present and make sure that the situation around Bornholm doesn’t escalate.

In the preceding phase VIBEN with her sister ship GLENTEN has conducted it’s last MULTEX (exercise with air and sea targets) around Sjællands Odde. The Variable Depth Sonar (VDS) was also lowered and recovered for the last time during a CASEX (submarine exercise) east of Bornholm.

As a natural conclusion to Division 24 last big exercise, both units were visited by Admiral Danish Fleet, Nils Wang on August 19. Amongst other things he experienced a somewhat chaotic MULTEX on board VIBEN. It could have been a silent protest from the ship, which didn’t seem quite content with the way things were going, that both the 3d-radar and the cannon went on strike.

Before Admiral Danish Fleet was set ashore he used the last minutes on board to give his view of the Navy’s future after the decommission of the STANDARD FLEX-structure.

As mentioned before DANEX enters it’s final phase now and VIBEN is ready, for the last time, to show it’s worth and adaptability in solving it’s tasks. The crew is ready for the last fight and is looking forward to the TACEX-phase, where there surprises always occur. One thing is for certain, VIBEN will not surrender without a fight.
