In Latvia, Danish military vehicles, armor and other materiel are currently arriving at the port and in the military area in and around Adazi.

In Latvia, materiel and crew will meet next week and will then be deployed in NATO's presence in the Baltics. The total Danish contribution will consist of about 750 soldiers in the form of units of a battalion value with necessary support functions.

As early as Tuesday, the first Danish soldiers of the NATO Defense Plan (NFP) arrived in Latvia, where they will be helping to prepare for the main force to arrive next week.

The deployment comes after the Danish parlament on 21th of April gave the government its consent for a Danish military contribution to be made available for NATO's presence in the Baltics.

Denmark is contributing to increasing the credibility of NATO's Article 5 and sending a clear signal of alliance solidarity. The Danish forces in Latvia will play an important role in securing NATO's eastern flank by deterring threats and, if necessary, responding to military aggression against our allies.

The fact that Danish soldiers are deployed in Latvia is a natural continuation of the cooperation Danish and Baltic soldiers have had in recent years' international missions and training. Through both the British-led battalion battle group in Estonia and the forthcoming battle battalion with support units in Latvia, Danish soldiers form a crucial part of NATO's presence in the Baltics.
