PRESS INVITATION
American military equipment and vehicles arriving in Aarhus
For the first time, the Port of Aarhus is offering host nation support. Members of the press will have an opportunity to witness the unloading of US equipment.
For the first time, the Port of Aarhus is offering host nation support. At the Port of Aarhus the USA and Denmark will work closely together to unload and service the ARC Independence, carrying approx 600 American vehicles and containers. The equipment will be transported via Aarhus and further east in accordance with planned American troop rotations. For this purpose the Danish Armed Forces will provide host nation support to the American units.
American forces have previously transited vehicles and equipment through Denmark in connection with exercise activities in Europe – for instance during exercises in Norway and Poland - and most recently through the Danish port of Esbjerg in August.
Members of the press will have an opportunity to witness the unloading of equipment at the Port of Aarhus.
Monday 16 January 2023 13.00-16.00 (further timings to follow upon registration)
The Danish Armed Forces will hold a press event with the opportunity to take pictures during the unloading of vehicles and equipment, and Danish Minister of Defense, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen and relevant spokespeople from the two countries will be available for interviews.
Please note that timings may be subject to late change as the ARC Independence is still en route.
The Danish host nation support incorporates supporting planned rotations of American units for Operation Atlantic Resolve – the USA's enhanced presence in Europe. For a number of years, Atlantic Resolve has aimed to demonstrate the US capability and willingness to deploy combat forces in order to reinforce NATO and alliance partners in Eastern Europe.
The equipment in question is configured with 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division (2/1 CD) based in Fort Hood, Texas.
