Following the story on Wednesday April 16th from Danish TV 2 “Danish soldiers to be trained in Ukraine”, it is important for Danish Defence to emphasize that the considerations described by the Chief of the Army do not concern Danish Armed Forces personnel participating in the training or education of Ukrainian troops in Ukraine. The focus from the Danish side is solely on gathering operational experience, where participating personnel learn from Ukrainian experiences on the battlefield.

It is not new that the Danish Armed Forces have had personnel in Ukraine for the purpose of experience gathering. Initially this involved personnel at the command level.

The Danish Armed Forces continually consider options to further qualify the collection of relevant military experience. As for the potential participation of Danish soldiers in training activities in Ukraine or similar initiatives, no decision has been made. It is merely one example of possible measures to strengthen experience gathering.

“During the Army’s most recent experience gathering visit earlier this year, the Ukrainians suggested that Danish soldiers could take part in short term courses and training in Ukraine, and also offered to send specialists to Denmark. It should be emphasized that there are currently no plans or decisions to send Danish soldiers to short term courses or for training in Ukraine – a point that has also been clearly communicated to TV 2,” says the Chief of Army Command Denmark, Major General Peter Boysen.
